Registration now open for ACRL 2009 Virtual Conference
Can’t make it to Seattle? You can still participate in the ACRL 2009 National Conference! The ACRL 2009 Virtual Conference, held completely online, will feature both synchronous and asynchronous activities, allowing for convenient scheduling and flexibility. You can participate fully in the conference without having to leave your desk. Registration is now open.
New This Year! The ACRL 2009 Virtual Conference is bigger and better than ever! For the first time, the Virtual Conference will include Dynamic Screen Captures, PowerPoint presentations synced with audio from every contributed paper and panel session presented in Seattle. Virtual Conference participants will be able to see and hear every Seattle contributed paper and panel program, more than 80 total sessions (and face-to-face conference participants will no longer have to regret the programs they missed because there was so much going on at the same time!). This new feature gives you more for your money and provides an opportunity to visit ACRL 2009 sessions all year long.
What is a Virtual Conference?
Like its face-to-face counterpart, ACRL 2009 Virtual Conference will run on a real-time schedule. The online conference, March 13-14, 2009, will feature synchronous activities, such as live Webcasts, that begin and end at a certain time. Synchronous and asynchronous activities include:
Live Webcasts
Dynamic Screen Captures
Interactive Second Life library tours
Video recordings of Naomi Klein’s Opening Keynote Session and Robin Chase’s Invited Green Presentation
Discussion boards
Presentation materials, including handouts, bibliographies, and speaker biographies
Daily blogs from roving correspondents to keep you connected with the activities and pulse of the live conference
Social networking, such as Facebook, Flickr, and YouTube
Access to the community for one year after the event
Complete descriptions and the schedule of live Webcasts are online at www.acrl.org/seattle (click “Virtual Conference”).
The Virtual Conference kicks into high gear February 17 (1:00 – 2:15 p.m. CST) with the kick-off Webcast featuring Jean-Claude Bradley, associate professor of chemistry and e-learning coordinator for the College of Arts and Sciences at Drexel University. The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) is a division of the American Library Association (ALA), representing nearly 13,000 academic and research librarians and interested individuals. ACRL is the only individual membership organization in North America that develops programs, products and services to meet the unique needs of academic and research librarians. Its initiatives enable the higher education community to understand the role that academic libraries play in the teaching, learning and research environments.
