Educating Library Leaders: Spring 2008 CE Offerings from Dominican GSLIS
Spring 2008 Continuing Education Offerings for LIS Students and Professionals
And the Entire Community of Learners
“Educating Library Leadersâ€
Dear Colleague:
This message extends to you well wishes for a rewarding and productive New Year as well as a personal invitation to take part in some of the exciting Continued Education programs sponsored by  Dominican University’s Graduate School of Library and Information Science. In our goal of promoting leadership and innovation in the LIS profession, we are pleased to bring you some of the profession’s most compelling thinkers and doers. In addition to our ongoing ‘Emerging Library Leaders for the 21st Century’ seminar series; newly appointed Follett Chair, Steve Herb, will look at the roles libraries play in bridging the burgeoning literacy gap. Later that month our active Alumni Council will sponsor their annual Career Day featuring keynoters Barbara Ford and Paul K. Whitsitt and a roster of library leaders. All programs are free of charge. Please share these programs with LIS students, with colleagues, with new and potential librarians, and across your organization’s learning community. We look forward to seeing you at one (or all) of these events!

After nourishment and shelter there are no more basic needs for our children than language and literacy development. According to Herb, our educational preoccupation with testing in public schools would become a historical artifact if only our national obsession focused on children entering school already reading and writing. Currently head of the education and behavioral sciences library at
